I Quit My Job 1 Year Ago to Drive the Pan-American Highway
It's been exactly 1 year since I put my ordinary life in the rearview mirror and quit my job to travel full time. If things had gone according to plan, I'd be in Costa Rica right now. Things are delayed, but everything happens for a reason and having all this extra time to work on the Troopy will pay off in the future.

Thanks to your video I just went there, I know you posted this for years ago but I was watching it the other night and I just bought a bronco raptor I have an off road modified teardrop trailer and I wanted to see how it would work and go someplace different so I hooked up the trailer and went there the road was rough, did I say rough!!!! very rocky the worst part for me is I didn’t know really where I was going but it was fun and then when I got out there I didn’t know which way to go found so many lakes, fun awesome place to camp hardly any people but at my camp spot lots of yellow jackets like insane amounts but they weren’t stinging, coming from the Bay Area the altitude kick my butt big time!!! how did you guys find the hiking trail by that damn I couldn’t find the trail, awesome spot great way to break in a new vehicle and it’s doable if you have a high clearance off-road trailer. Cool video thanks👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Still one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. Thank you for the pragmatic approach.

New follower. You did good by W SD with this video, especially when you made the switch from “Buffalo” to their correct species name, Bison. 😉👍
Keep going man! I didn’t know you quit your job to do this. That’s dope. Someday I’m just gonna hit the road 😂 Good luck with the Troopy and the journey.
Thanks so much man! Just going full send so we’ll see what happens 🙌
Keep plugging away Ben - I’ll be here watching and rooting you and Bandit on!
I appreciate it Craig! Take care man 🙏
Always always love your transparency and realness Ben. Would love to see the budget breakdown from what Valley Highbrids tackled.
Thanks so much Chadwick! You got it 💰
Post more! Always love the content, even just IG stories.
Thanks Chris! I’m definitely working on it. Lots of good stuff coming 🙏
You are an inspiration, Ben. Keep on going!
Thank you Ben! I appreciate you and your support 🙌
Still here for the journey. Keep it up and hope to see you out there.
Thank you so much Steven! Be safe out there 🤙
Remind yourself when you start having doubts there are people out here who are going to show up every time you have a video. Also remind yourself that you did not become a mechanical engineer in one year and even after you got that degree you still learned stuff on the job. Build it and we will come😊
You’re so right Jeff. I really appreciate it. One year down and many more to come 🙏

Subscribed to This American Life....will check it out.
AMEN......Fantastic Video!
Thanks so much bro! I appreciate all the support 🤙
Don't ever regret your decisions on making this incredible journey into your life. This is probably a once in a lifetime decision you'll ever make. Your videos are such an inspiration to me and many others. Every time I watch your videos, i get all reved up to go on my solo trips. I have a four day trip coming in September. I'll be looking forward to your next video and also getting excited to see what's happening to the troopy. Take care, my friend, and remember to be safe out there.
I always appreciate your kind words John! Thanks so much! I’ll look forward to hearing how your September trip goes 🏕️
I’m not crying… you’re crying! Lol Although I do miss working with you and your team, I know you are doing what you love! Keep on keeping on Ben!
Man I miss you guys too! Hope you’re doing well Michael!
Thanks, Ben. I look forward to your videos. They're well crafted and honest. You have talent. Keep honing your skills! - Dan 🌲🌲🌲
Thank you so much Dan! You’ve been so supportive and I truly appreciate it! 🙏
Amazing spirit and attitude Ben. We will continue to follow along.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 🙌
If you’ve been here for a while, you know things haven’t been easy. But I’ve got no regrets and can’t wait for what’s coming next! Thanks so much for your support 🤙
Your Life, Your Dreams, No Regrets
You got that right 🙏
I like it, but the price is kinda rough.
Accessible in November with the proper vehicle? Can’t find out if USFS closes that trail
Awesome video! I thought I was going to be jam packed with all the kiddos off school. We’re going there this Friday!
Great talk about your Troopys! Honestly I am thinking about making the switch and diving into a Troopy. Been rocking a Vanagon Syncro for many years. They are also a van which makes the Troopy very compelling but with Toyota reliability. The syncro is really fun and simple and raw as well but they breakdown all the time it's starting to feel like driving an antique. Any advice on making the leap?
Good luck, Ben! 🎥👍
Thanks Adolf! Take care 🙌
This is a very informative video, Ben, and I'm quite sure someone out there could use this information. As always, you found another great spot to camp out at. Take care and keep these videos coming.
Thanks John! My goal is to blend the education aspect with the inspiration aspect of my traditional trip videos! Take care John 🙌
What a great video! Super informative but what is this calling someone on the phone business?! lol. That last spot next to the small stream looked awesome!
Haha I know! So old fashioned 😅 thanks Michael!
Nice video, Ben. If I could add anything, it's research, research, and research. The more research you do, the more prepared you will be. Less surprises = more contentment. Thanks - Dan🌲🌲🌲
@@saginawdan so true Dan! The more effort you put in, the more rewarding!
One app I didn’t mention is iOverlander. It’s a great resource, but in my experience there are a lot of marked dispersed campsites that aren’t legal options. Do your research and confirm the legality before camping!
500 $ 🤣 mine cost 20 ….
Looked like another peaceful outing! BTW - now you got me craving some chicken tendies!
Haha there’s never a bad time for some tendies! I just discovered how great they are for some quick camp meals.
First video of yours that I watched was from 4 years ago at Bowman lake in your 4runner. I've watched every video since, cool to see you out there again.
That’s so awesome. It was great to get back there! Thanks for sticking around with me through everything Mike!
Great vid. Glad to see you and the Troopy have seemingly recovered from the Alaskan “adventure”! Bowman Lake seems need to add to my list. Wondering what are those rear door table brackets? I’m doing a Cargo Trailer conversion and those would be ideal for my rear door.
Thank you! 🙏 definitely add it to your list if you’re ever in the area! The rear table came from GP Factor. Pretty sure you can find similar latches by searching for rotary latches. This is a micro two stage rotary latch.
Absolutely love this style of video Ben! I can see your creativity shining through the entire video! Thanks for sharing all your adventures! That lake is beautiful!
Thank you so much Vince! It’s fun to try something new and see how it does.
Very beautiful nature! Good luck Ben!
Thank you so much Adolf!
well, i never thought I'll say this, but i really missed you talking. i sat down in my recliner ( sorry Ben ) with a rum and coke in hand and excitedly watched another great video. without sounding weird, you have such a kind sounding voice. Ok, enough of the mushy stuff 😅 that was one great little camp spot you found. Hope all is well with you, Bandit, and of course, the troopy. Take care and be safe out there
Haha no worries at all John, I appreciate it! Figured I’d try something new with this one, but we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming here soon 🙌
@BenStinnett There was something very Zen about this video. The views spoke volumes. Nice job, Ben. 🙂
I was there 6/19-21 and passed by a campsite with a Troopy, and I was like, "I wonder if it's that dude?" I was in a Mitsubishi Delica. Hope you had a great time! 🤙
Dude I totally remember your Delica! It was such a great time! Same to you 🤙
@BenStinnett Next time I'll be sure to say "Hi!" Safe travels!
Amazing shots and cinematography. So much time to setup all those opening shots! Fun seeing something combining your old school tripping videos with something new with the more quiet bits. Well done!
Thank you so much 🙏
Beautiful place! I just want to say, I appreciate all the work you put in to get some of the shots you do. Can’t imagine how many times you have to drive away just to turn around and go get the camera! Lol. Great video!
Haha thanks so much Michael. I’m tempted to make a video just from all the shots of me running back to the camera lol 😂
@@BenStinnett definitely need to see a blooper video! 😂
Great video brother!
Thanks bro! I appreciate you 🤙
Used to be my favorite area when the bridge was washed out! Way too busy since they’ve rebuilt it!
Totally agree! Mid-week is the way to go if you can ever swing it. Talked with a ranger on the way out who said they are redoing the trail this summer to make it more passable, so it’s just gonna get even busier
Oh dude I was just there (at sawmill lake) from the 30th to the 1st! So cool you posted a video from the same place a few days later! 🤘
Dude no way? That’s awesome. So much to do over there, I love sawmill and faucherie
@@BenStinnett Sawmill was incredible, the trail was awesome, the mosquitos, not so awesome 🤣. It was my first time to the area and the roughest trail I've been on, thanks for the inspiration 👍
Beautiful 🌲🌲🌲
Thank you so much 🙌
So when are we doing a Troopy swap? 😜 epic video again Ben!
Haha that would be epic! 🤙
Good/informative
Hey Ben, awesome vids! What lift are you running front back to fit them 285’s?
Hey there! I was running Kings with ~2.5" of lift. I also did the body mount chop up front to make some more room.
The Troopy is a beast nice content camping at its best cheers
Thanks so much Shaun!
Hey mate, that’s the window brand? The one behind the passenger seat. Cheers
All the windows came from Explore Glazing!
Hi Ben, love your videos. Make it easy and start where you are. Travelled a lot in the last years through Scandinavia, Italy, France and Austria with my Citroen Berlingo. Planning to get away from the main roads and move to an 4wd to enhance the possibilities to reach locations which are not so crowded. Btw, I registered on your website through your link but didn't receive your book preview. Would be happy to read /review your 1st chapter 😊 br
Thanks so much for the kind words Thor! Sounds like you've got some exciting adventures ahead of you! Let me check on that and make sure you get it!
Great video man! It’s always fun to watch your adventures!
Thanks so much man! I’m glad you enjoy it!
Check out the “Southwestern Style” Egg Beaters in the carton - it has peppers and is real tasty. Bring them all the time when Overlanding/camping.
Oh I'm definitely gonna check those out! Thanks man!
